  Welcome, Announcements, and God's Greeting

Drawing Near to God

Call To Worship  (Responsive)   Adapted from Psalm 19 and Nehemiah 8:9b.

The heavens are telling the glory of God,

and the firmament proclaims God's handiwork.
This day is holy to our God; do not mourn nor weep.
Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.
This day is holy to our God; do not mourn or weep.
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.
This day is holy to our God; do not mourn or weep.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever;

the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
This day is holy to our God; do not mourn or weep.
Praise the Lord.
       The Lord's name be praised.

*Hymn of Praise #20                                                                 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

Allowing God to Shape Us

  Call to Confession

Psalm 32:1, 2 reads, "Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Happy are those to whom the LORD imputes no iniquity, and in whose spirit, there is no deceit". Seeking the blessing of forgiveness, let us now acknowledge our transgressions.

  Prayer of Confession  (Unison)

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon    Psalm 103.8, 10-12

"The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love . . . He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us." Thanks be to God!

Coming before God’s Open Word

Children’s Sermon and Prayer of Blessing  (Unison)

Lord Jesus, lead our children into a deep awareness that you willingly offered   yourself up to suffering and death on the cross for their salvation.  Assure them that you speak up for them before God, and that because of you, they are good in God’s sight and will live forever with you in heaven.  Amen.

Prayer for Illumination  (Responsive)  Christina Rossetti, 1830-1894

Speak, Lord, for your servants are listening.

Grant us ears to hear, eyes to see, wills to obey, hearts to love.

Then declare what you will.

Reveal what you will, command what you will, demand what you will.

  Scripture Reading                                                                                               Luke 23:33-43

  Message                                                                                                    “Unwavering Jesus”

  Prayer of Blessing

Silent Prayer for Those Seeking to Accept Christ as Their Savior:

"Dear Jesus, I confess that I'm a sinner, and not right with you. I repent and ask forgiveness.  I believe that you died on the cross to take my punishment and to pay the price for my sins.  I believe that you rose from death to give me new life. Wash me clean from all sin, shame, and guilt, and come into my heart as my Lord and Savior.  In your name I pray.  Amen."

Celebrating God, His Abundance, and His Care

Moment for Missions  Paula La Joy

  Offering/Offertory                           At Calvary  #510

“Mercy there was great, and grace was free; there, my burdened soul found liberty – at Calvary”

*Offertory Prayer (Unison)

Beloved Lord, you have offered us salvation and the promise of your Heavenly Kingdom through Jesus Christ, and these gifts of grace have freed us from so many unnecessary fears.  As children of your light, we are called to reflect your grace, now and always, and we offer these gifts so that others may share in the timeless blessing of your love.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

Prayer Requests, Pastoral Prayer, and The Lord’s Prayer

Special Offering, Reformed Church in America Hurricane Relief

*Closing Hymn #218                                                                                       Were you There?

*Blessing, Benediction, and Response Hymn                            By the Gift of God’s Grace

By the gift of God’s grace may your burdens be light,

and your heart with his love be aglow. May your spirit be glad, may your soul be at rest,

and may Christ grant you peace as you go.  Amen.

  Postlude

The Kinderhook Reformed Church Cemetery is sponsoring a BROOKS BAR-B-CUE again this year from 3:00 - 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, on the front and side lawns of the church. PRICES ARE $12 FOR THE FULL DINNER AND $8 FOR CHICKEN ONLY.  Full dinner includes a baked potato, coleslaw, and roll.  A variety of beverages will be available to those who are eating in the fellowship room, and for carry-outs, bottled water will be available. For a donation, homemade desserts will be offered to enhance the meal.  If you are able to donate baked for the dessert menu, please indicate your contribution on the sign-up sheet at the back table.

All proceeds will go toward operation and maintenance of the cemetery grounds, which has, over the years, become an increasingly costly community ministry. Starting next Sunday, September 17, reservations can be left on the church phone, 518-758-6401, or at 518-758-9492. PAYMENT BY CHECK OR BY CASH FOR PHONE RESERVATIONS, WILL BE COLLECTED WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE BAR-B-CUE.  If you prefer, you may purchase prepaid tickets from Jim Dunham, Dawn Van Buren, Steve Shpur, Jane Deane, or Gary Leggett.

The Cemetery Committee remembers gratefully your support of last year’s BAR-B-CUE, and is counting on your help in making this important fundraising event a success again this year.

All of us from time to time, as members and friends of the KRC family, have had concerns and issues about church policies; Consistory decisions; order and times of our worship services; the preaching ministry; and sometimes even issues and concerns related to our interpersonal relationships within the church family.  We would like you to know that the Elders are available to speak with you about any concerns you may have and invite you to contact them at any time.

~ IMPORTANT NOTE OF INFORMATION FROM CONSISTORY ~

Those of you whose work requires interacting day in and day out with people who exhibit a variety of attitudes, needs, and joys, can attest to the fact that, whether on the job or off, one’s mind is never completely free of the responsibilities, concerns, and inevitable stress, and time away becomes a necessity, not a luxury.

The minimum allowances to be made available to RCA pastors for vacation and professional development are shown below – currently 5 weeks vacation time* and 2 weeks professional development leave for Pastor Rudy.  These mandates are not of our own choosing or subject to change; they must be followed for all pastors, and have been established to protect them and insure that they are provided with healthy, productive arrangements with their individual churches:

REFORMED CHURCH IN AMERICA - CLASSIS OF COLUMBIA-GREENE
