BOLDLY APPROACHING OUR GOD

  Call to Worship (Responsive)  Based on Psalm 108

Our hearts are steadfast, O God;

we will sing and make music with all our souls.

       We will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;

       we will sing of you among the peoples.

For great is your love, higher than the heavens;

your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

       Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,

       and let your glory be over all the earth

*Hymn of Praise #50 (All verses)                      Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above

  Call to Confession  Psalm 51:16,17

The psalmist declares, “O Lord, you do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”  In acceptance of this truth and with repentant hearts, let us confess our sin.

  Prayer of Confession  (Unison)  Based on Psalm 51:1-12

Have mercy on us, O God, according to your great compassion. Against you, and you only, have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight, and our sin is always before us. Hide your face from our sins, and blot out our transgressions; cleanse us, and we will be clean.  Wash us, and we will be whiter than snow.

[Silent Prayer of Confession]

Create in us pure hearts, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within each of us.

Do not cast us from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from us, but restore to us the joy or your salvation. Grant us willing spirits, to sustain us, and we will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. Amen.

  Assurance of Pardon  (Responsive)  Psalm 50:14,15 ; 48:14

Our compassionate God promises, “Fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you will honor me.”

This God is our God for ever and ever!

He will be our guide even to the end!  Amen.

  Children’s Message and Blessing  (Unison)

Lord Jesus, may our children have hearts that are open to your eternal presence. May they know that, when you are living within them, your goodness becomes their goodness in the eyes of God.  May they be your light in this world, testifying faithfully to your truth, and attracting many to your gospel of salvation and eternal life.  Amen.

WE COME BEFORE GOD'S OPEN WORD

MANY THANKS AND BLESSINGS TO THE KRC FAMILY FOR THEIR GENEROSITY IN SUPPORT OF THE VALATIE FOOD PANTRY.  IN 2013, THE PANTRY SERVED 3915 PEOPLE REPRESENTING 1065 FAMILIES. Non-perishable foods that are always popular at the Pantry are evaporated milk; coffee; sugar; boxed cereals; pancake mix; syrup; jelly; canned meats, fruits, and vegetables; spaghetti/spaghetti sauce; mac & cheese; dinner helpers; apple sauce; juice; cake & brownie mixes. Donations may be placed in the collection containers available in the entryways of the church.

The Ichabod Crane High School Art Club is hosting the sixth annual “Empty Bowls” supper THIS COMING TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, from 4:30-6:30 pm in the ICHS cafeteria.  The public is invited to enjoy a delicious simple meal at this community event and take home a ceramic bowl made by Ichabod Crane students. The bowl serves as a visible reminder that people go to bed hungry every night. Admission by cash donation includes handmade bowl, soup, bread, and beverage. The ceramic bowls have been created by members of the Art Club and students in Ceramics classes at ICHS.   All proceeds from this “Empty Bowls” supper benefit the Valatie Ecumenical Food Pantry. In case of bad weather, the snow date will be Thursday, February 6.

                                                                    Thank you,   Laura Cannamela

~NOTE OF THANKS FROM CAPITAL CITY RESCUE MISSION~

Dear Reformed Protestant Dutch Church,

Your gift of $190 for our Christmas Campaign just arrived. Your generous support brings joy to my heart.  I can’t thank you enough.  Your gift has made a difference for many homeless people in our community – some of whom have spent decades suffering on the streets.  You have given these struggling souls a reason to be grateful this past Christmas season.  And that may change everything.  A decent meal, out of the elements, can inspire people who need help to pursue a better life. They may be moved to enter our long-term care, where they receive counseling, spiritual nourishment, accountability, and job retraining that helps them regain their independence and God-given purpose.  That’s why providing meals during the Christmas season is such a wonderful way to help your homeless neighbors.  It is a “spark” than can lead to transformed lives by the power of Christ.  Thank you and God bless you.

                                                   Gratefully,    Perry Jones, Executive Director

KRC’s share of support this year is $5,728.14 for services and resources to be provided for us by the Reformed Church in America at the local, regional, and national levels. EACH MEMBER’S SHARE OF THIS YEAR’S CLASSIS ASSESSMENT HAS BEEN SET AT $86.79.  All who are able to do so are encouraged to offer, over and above regular giving, their share of this support.  The full share does not have to be given at one time, but may be given in as many increments as are convenient. If offered weekly, that’s less than $2 per week. All contributions made for this purpose should be designated, “Classis Assessment.”

~CONCERTS IN THE VILLAGE PLANNED FOR 2014~

     Kinderhook Reformed Church is pleased to present the 2014 portion of Concerts in the Village (CITV), a concert series begun 4 years ago under the sponsorship of KRC’s Stewardship Ministry as a music outreach to the church’s surrounding communities featuring our refurbished pipe organ.  Continuing under the dedicated administration of KRC’s CITV committee and the capable and talented leadership of music director and organist, David Smith, the series has evolved to include a variety of orchestral instrumentalists, vocal soloists, a chorus of over 70 voices (now known as the Broad Street Chorale), and a wide selection of sacred and secular pieces from diverse musical periods and cultures.

     All concerts will be performed in KRC’s sanctuary, and a suggested donation of $15 will be gratefully accepted to assist in the ongoing funding of this exceptional series:

       SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 3:00 P.M.  The third offering in the 2013-2014 Concerts in the Village series will be "Henry Purcell Sacred and Secular: Home, Church and Dramatic Music of the Early Baroque in England.” Featured will be the Broad Street Chorale, soloists Amanda Boyd, Jon Morrell and others, and orchestra.  This program will include a concert performance of Dido and Aeneas, the first important opera in the English language, as well as instrumental and solo vocal music.
