DRAWING NEARER TO GOD

  Call to Worship (Responsive)

Children of God, worship your living God today!

Remember that out of nothing God created the heavens and earth.

We remember that the God of the living resurrected Jesus

from the powerlessness of death to the power of his right hand.

Remember that through Christ, you will become children of the resurrection! Remember that not even the gates of hell can stand against God’s purposes!

We behold our God, who reigns now and forever!

*Hymn of Praise #66  (All verses)                                       The God of Abraham Praise

TURNING OUR HEARTS TO GOD

Call to Confession  Isaiah 30:15, 18

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength. The Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore He will rise up to show you compassion.  For the Lord is a God of justice.  Blessed are all who wait for Him!”   In quietness, then, let us confess our sins to our God of mercy.

Prayer of Confession (Responsive)

[Silent Prayer of Confession]

Eternal and merciful God, you have loved us beyond our understanding.

You have set us on paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Yet we have strayed from Your way; we have sinned against You in thought, word, action, and inaction. As we remember the lavish gift of Your mercy, O God, we praise and thank You that You forgive us yet again. Grant us now Your grace to die daily to sin, and Your power to be resurrected daily to new life in Christ, who lives and reigns with You, and in whose strong name we pray.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon (Responsive)  Hebrews 10:10

We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

And this is God’s gospel promise: to grant us forgiveness of sins and eternal life by grace because of Christ’s one sacrifice accomplished on the cross.   Hallelujah!

  Children’s Message and Blessing (Unison)

Lord Jesus, may the hearts of our children be open to Your eternal presence. May they know that when You are living within them, Your goodness becomes their goodness in the eyes of God.  May they be Your light in this world, testifying without shame to Your truth, and attracting many to the good news of Your gifts of salvation and eternal life.  Amen.

~NEW MEMBERS CLASS~

Pastor Rudy will be offering a New Members Class at the parsonage, 51 Eichybush Rd, from 6 – 7 p.m. each Wednesday in November (13, 20, 26).  If you have considered becoming a member of KRC, please contact Pastor and let him know you are interested.

~ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS BEGINS STUDY OF THE LORD’S PRAYER~

Beginning today, the adult Sunday School class led by John Schubert will begin a study based on The Lord's Prayer. The study will last from 6 - 8 weeks depending on the Sundays available for the class to meet, and will include audio lessons from  Adrian Rogers’ messages as well as a study guide.  The prayer that Jesus taught His disciples and us is filled with the way we should seek to be in communication with God.  From praise, to longing for His presence, to seeking His forgiveness, to asking for His favor and strength in our lives, we acknowledge who God is in His character, love, and power.  It is hoped that this study will be of help to any who feel the need to draw closer to our God, and all are invited to attend.

~CITV CONCERT SERIES PLANNED FOR 2013 – 2014~

Kinderhook Reformed Church is pleased to present the 2013 – 2014 season of Concerts in the Village (CITV), a concert series begun 4 years ago under the sponsorship of KRC’s Stewardship Ministry as a music outreach to the church’s surrounding communities featuring our refurbished pipe organ.  Continuing under the dedicated administration of KRC’s CITV committee and the capable and talented leadership of music director and organist, David Smith, the series has evolved to include a variety of orchestral instrumentalists, vocal soloists, a chorus of over 70 voices (now known as the Broad Street Chorale), and a wide selection of sacred and secular pieces from diverse musical periods and cultures.

All of the following concerts will be performed in KRC’s sanctuary.  A suggested donation of $15 will be gratefully accepted to assist in the ongoing funding of this exceptional series.

TODAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2013 3:00 PM  “Handel Sacred and Secular:  Royal, Church and Theater Music of the Baroque in England” with the Broad Street Chorale, soloists Amanda Boyd, Jon Morrell and others, and orchestra. PLEASE DELIVER THEM TO THE FELLOWSHIP ROOM BY 3 P.M.

~THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE CONTINUES~

KRC’S OUTREACH MINISTRY IS ONCE AGAIN COLLECTING ITEMS FOR THE VALATIE ECUMENICAL FOOD PANTRY FOR THANKSGIVING. THE DRIVE continues through next Sunday, November 17.  Please place your bagged donations in the foyer on or before November 17.  Suggested food items most needed are, CANNED SWEET POTATOES and YAMS; PUMPKIN; CRANBERRY SAUCE; WHITE, BLACK, and RED KIDNEY BEANS; FLOUR; SUGAR; CEREAL; and DISH SOAPS.  Otherwise, bring in whatever your heart moves you to provide - any nonperishable food items will be welcomed!   AS A RESULT OF THE PANTRY’S FOOD COLLECTION DRIVE LAST YEAR, OVER 100 THANKSGIVING BASKETS WERE DELIVERED TO NEEDY FAMILIES, AND KRC CONTRIBUTED SUBSTANTIALLY TO THIS EFFORT. LET’S MAKE THIS YEAR EVEN BETTER!

~ECUMENICAL THANKSGIVING SERVICE NOVEMBER 27~

On Wednesday, November 27, the Stuyvesant Reformed Church will be hosting the Ichabod Crane Council, Ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve Service. A combined choir of singers from all of the churches will perform a special anthem. IF ANYONE FROM YOUR CHURCH WOULD BE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE CHOIR, THE LAST REHEARSAL IS AT 2 P.M. THIS AFTERNOON.  Men’s tenor and bass voices are especially needed, and would be most welcome.

~THANK YOU TO OLD DUTCH & SUCH BAZAAR / CRAFTS FAIR  VOLUNTEERS~

Many thanks to all those who helped to make KRC’s recent Old Dutch & Such Bazaar / Crafts Fair a great success – the volunteers who contributed craft products, baked goods, and other food items, as well as those who donated their time setting up, working, and cleaning up after the bazaar.  Our appreciation also to Jeff Barmen for preparing the delicious food for the bazaar’s lunch menu; and a special thank-you to chairperson Dawn Tuttle, who began organizing the event and working with the crafters weekly beginning last January.

The Bazaar took in over $3000 this year.  Income from sales other than KRC’s Commemorative Cookbook and Historic Booklet will be put toward the church’s restoration fund.  However, the Bazaar was much more than a financial success: it provided an opportunity to get together weekly to enjoy good fellowship, foster closer relationships, and ultimately create an extraordinary outreach to our community.  Please join us in praising God for this dedicated, hard-working, and creative group.

~CAPITAL CITY RESCUE MISSION MEN’S GIFT PROGRAM~

LET’S SHARE OUR BLESSINGS and bring some warmth and caring to many who might not otherwise have much “Holiday Cheer” in these difficult times.  Beginning Sunday, November 24, KRC will be collecting gifts for homeless men, and Capital City Rescue Mission will distribute these gifts at the Mission’s community Christmas dinners.  In a gallon-size zip lock bag, place the following 5 items: (1) two new pairs men’s warm socks; (2) one hat; (3) one pair of LG or XLG mittens or gloves; (4) a personal care item or pair of items such as toothbrush/paste, deodorant, shaving gel/razor, nail clipper; and (5) a non-perishable snack or treat that will not crush or melt.  Wrap with festive paper (no bows), tape securely, mark LG or XLG on the outside of package, and return to the church collection boxes by Sunday, December 15.

~KRC SANCTUARY DECORATION~

Decorating the church for the Christmas Season will be done from 9 am - 12 noon Tuesday, December 3, under the direction of Jim and Bonnie Dunham.  All are invited to offer their services to the ministry of beautifying our sanctuary in celebration of the birth of our Lord.

  ANGEL TREE GIFT PROGRAM~

Gift needs for Angel Tree’s children of prisoners will soon be displayed on angel cut-outs on a Christmas tree in the church’s main entrance. Each angel will contain very specific age, size, and gift-request information for a particular child to assist donors as they gift-shop.  Please watch for the Angel Tree, and consider taking an angel.  Your gifts will bring Christmas joy to those Christ blessed and of whom he said, “The kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Volunteers will also be needed to help deliver the gifts to local families. Please contact Sara Hartman (828-6368 or 917-538-6576) if you would be willing to participate in the gift-delivery ministry.

CANDLELIGHT NIGHT FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13E

KRC will sponsor its annual Candlelight Night Open House 6 – 8:30 p.m. Friday, December 13, in conjunction with Kinderhook Village’s Candlelight Walk celebration.  KRC’s Open House will feature tours of our beautiful sanctuary -  decorated with lighted garlands, candles, poinsettias, the lovely Chrismon tree, and the nearly-life-size Fontanini Nativity - together with Christmas music, cookie decorating, refreshments, and community fellowship in the Fellowship Room. Refreshment buffet will include cookies, cake, candy, hot drinks, and eggnog. Volunteers to assist, as well as donations of buffet items and Christmas paper products, will be much appreciated.  Please watch for a sign sheet to be provided on the back table in the near future, but feel free to contact a member of the Outreach Ministry  if you are able to help with this ministry.

~LESSONS AND CAROLS DECEMBER 22~

KRC’s Fourth Annual Lessons and Carols Christmas Worship Service directed by David Smith will be presented on December 22. Lessons and Carols is a worship service celebrating the birth of Jesus. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books, and the Gospels, along with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns, and choir music. The first Lessons and Carols was held on Christmas Eve, 1918, at King's College, Cambridge, England, and has been broadcast from there by the BBC to millions of listeners around the world each Christmas Eve since 1931. The order of worship was adapted from an order prepared 38 years earlier by Edward White Benson, Bishop of Truro. Tradition says that the bishop organized a 10 pm service in Cornwall on Christmas Eve, 1880, in a temporary wooden shed serving as his cathedral.

A Christmas gift to our community from the KRC family, Lessons and Carols is open to all.

Service of Dedication - New Church Sign

November 10, 2013

Thoughts on the Purpose of this Sign and Reading

“. . . there will be a place of worship to God in the center of Egypt and a monument to God at its border. It will show how the God-of-the-Angel-Armies has helped the Egyptians. When they cry out in prayer to God he’ll send them help, a savior who will keep them safe and take care of them. God will openly show himself to the Egyptians and they’ll get to know him on that Day. They’ll worship him seriously with sacrifices and burnt offerings. They’ll make vows and keep them. God will wound Egypt, first hit and then heal.  Egypt will come back to God, and God will listen to their prayers and heal them, heal them from head to toe.”

                                                                                                Isaiah 19:19-22

 Apostles Creed (Unison)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;  he descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
